What is the The Employee Retention Credit?

The ERC was a program implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide financial relief to businesses and encourage them to retain their employees during times of economic uncertainty.

The idea behind the Employee Retention Credit is to offer eligible employers a refundable tax credit against certain employment taxes. This credit is designed to incentivize businesses to keep their employees on the payroll and maintain their operations, even if they were experiencing financial difficulties due to the pandemic.
